Socio-aesthetics

Based on a holistic approach (bio-psycho-social-aesthetic), a socio-beautician is a professional who provides technical/aesthetic and relational care of a preventive (hygiene), healing (integration of side effects), palliative and educational (according to the needs observed) nature, using beauty treatments and their variations.

The socio-beautician offers a sense of comfort and unconditional support. She helps reinstate the patient’s personality and his/her value as a human-being, she restores dignity. For the patient, she is a source of help and advice, with a caring attitude.

Physically, she is there to:

  • Alleviate any adverse effects from treatment and improve the appearance of the skin and skin appendages using the appropriate techniques and products
  • Help the patient acquire the techniques necessary to maintain his/her identity by offering advice on hairstyles, corrective make-up, headscarves…
  • Focus on the positive areas of the body
  • Improve the sense of well-being thanks to a relaxing and pleasant touch
  • Improve quality of life and support
  • Promote rest and relaxation
  • Restore appearance and maintain personal hygiene
  • Relieve pain

Psychologically:

  • Set up various communication channels based on a new approach and a non-medical attentive ear
  • Help to maintain space-time reference points
  • Facilitate relationship between carer/patient and acceptance of treatment
  • Help patients to adapt to the changing image of their bodies, to better integrate their new body image
  • Promote social and family relations
  • Foster the maintaining of autonomy
  • Encourage the will and desire to live
  • Alleviate stress and anxiety

H.E. the Minister of State visits the Wellness Centre

On Thursday 25th July 2013, H.E. the Minister of State visits the Wellness Centre.

Welcomed by the President, Mrs Adeline Garino, the Vice-President, Mrs Evelyne Bellerio and the treasurer, Mrs Mado Petit, H.E. the Minister of State discovered the unique and friendly centre which forms a real bridge between disease and ordinary daily life.

Mrs Garino explained the various activities offered by the Wellness Centre: relaxation, tai-chi and beauty treatments, in addition to care provided by healthcare professionals including the support of a psychologist, a gynaecologist and a naturopath… however “it is not a medical environment” pointed out the President, Adeline Garino. Approximately 25 people benefit from these services free of charge every month.

The role of the voluntary support workers, after receiving psychological training, also involves patient visits at the CHPG’s outpatient unit.

After congratulating the members of the bureau and all the volunteers, H.E. Mr Michel Roger assured the President of his support for this worthy initiative.
